The
Meta Skills of Sports Performance
A one
day workshop exploring and learning the metaskills of sport.
MetaSkill: Meta means operating
behind or above . Sports meta skills are those skills that operate
in the background outside of conscious awareness yet impact every move.
Examples:
-
A point guard
drives up the basketball floor and "see's" the entire floor as if in
slow motion and can anticipate where people are going to move.
Spectators see a no look pass and marvel that he has eyes in the
back of his head.

A batter
experiences the ball coming over home plate in slow motion and views
it much larger the 'real life' and hitting the ball is easy.

A tennis player
always slips into 'the zone' when ever he steps on the court. No
matter what is happening in their outer life, they consistently
enter "the zone" at will.
This is non-sport
specific and can apply to any sport. It concentrates on the mental
dimensions. It is not sport psychology in the traditional sense, but
state of the art mental skills.
Abilities
Learned:
- Time Distortion: speeding up while the game slows down
- Performance State Control: Entering 'the zone' at will- always be on.
A specific scientific approach to 'putting on your game face'
